16/10/2024
The IT hub in Bucharest employs around 140 people who provide support services, including business technology solutions, data and analytics, software engineering, and cyber-security, for various activities within the tobacco company, JTI said. The company is considering expanding its staff here in the future.
The value of the investment in the IT hub was not disclosed, said Alexander Pitchka, general manager of JTI Romania, Moldova, and Bulgaria. JTI has been present in Romania since 1993 and currently employs over 1,400 people in its Bucharest headquarters, its factory, the newly-established IT hub, and in more than 30 sales offices throughout the country. JTI Romania also coordinates the company's activity in the Bulgarian and Moldovan markets. Globally, JTI is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and operates 38 factories as well as eight research and development centres worldwide. SITA, a global leader in technology for the air transport industry, opened a new technological hub in Cluj-Napoca, in Romania's Transylvania region. The new center will develop cutting-edge solutions that address the aviation industry's most pressing challenges, such as improving passenger experience and reducing environmental impact, the company said.
Air transport technology company, SITA is opening its latest technology hub in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Aimed at advancing the future of air travel, this new hub strengthens SITA’s global network of technology centres and will play a critical role in addressing the challenges facing the aviation industry today. These include enhancing operational efficiency, reducing environmental impact and delivering seamless passenger experiences. The Cluj-Napoca hub joins its SITA technology network which includes hubs in London (United Kingdom), Letterkenny (Ireland), and New Delhi (India), and will focus on developing solutions that transform passenger processing and travel technologies. The hub is instrumental in the creation of next-generation platforms like SITA Flex, which lets global travellers check in and board using their phones, reducing wait times by up to 40%. “As the aviation industry undergoes rapid digital transformation, our new tech hub in Cluj-Napoca will help accelerate the development of technologies that meet growing passenger demand for faster, smarter, and greener travel,” said SITA CEO David Lavorel. “The hub plays a crucial role in modernising passenger processing globally, with a focus on automation, biometrics, and AI, enabling more seamless and efficient travel solutions.” Airports and airlines are investing heavily in technology with airports alone spending US$10.8 billion and airlines $34.5 billion in IT (SITA Air Transport IT Insights 2023)—underscoring the urgent need for innovation. SITA’s Cluj hub is at the forefront, contributing to the industry’s shift toward cloud-based, mobile and self-service solutions that improve efficiency and sustainability. The new centre will provide local and regional customers with access to its services, including 5G, metaverse, blockchain, quantum computing, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
In July, Tech Mahindra announced the expansion of its Business Processing Services (BPS) business in the Baltic States with a new centre in Riga, Latvia. The new market expansion is a significant part of Tech Mahindra’s ongoing strategy to deliver innovative technology solutions worldwide. The centre was inaugurated by Mr. Tanmaya Lal, Ambassador of India to the Republic of Latvia & Sweden, Mr. Jurģis Miezainis, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Economics, Republic of Latvia and Mr. Vilnis Ķirsis, Mayor of Riga. The expansion of BPS business will help Tech Mahindra bolster its presence in Europe, providing local and regional customers with direct access to its comprehensive range of services, including 5G, Metaverse, Blockchain, Quantum Computing, Cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence. Tech Mahindra will establish a state-of-the-art Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) service within the cutting-edge Jaunā Teika complex. Birendra Sen, Business Head, Business Process Services, Tech Mahindra, said, [i"Tech Mahindra’s expansion into the Baltic States is a pivotal stride in our growth strategy. Latvia’s thriving tech ecosystem, skilled workforce, robust IT infrastructure, and favorable government policies make it an ideal hub for accessing European markets. This expansion highlights our commitment to regional growth and technological advancements in Europe, further empowering our customers to scale at speed and adapt their businesses like never before.”[/i] The centre will employ approximately 500 professionals, further extending Tech Mahindra’s global workforce which spans over 145000+ employees across 90+ countries. DATAGROUP, a leading German IT service company, has recently established a branch in the heart of Kaunas, Lithuania. Operating as DATAGROUP Operations Lithuania UAB, the new office will join DATAGROUP in its aim to revolutionize the IT industry with innovative solutions, setting new benchmarks in safety, excellence, and sustainability. The company intends to recruit up to 30 employees during its initial setup phase, totaling up to 50 for the entire project.
Founded back in 1983 as a two-person software development company, DATAGROUP was already working with major clients like Audi and BMW just three years later. Under the guidance of its co-founder Max Schaber, the company achieved remarkable success, becoming one of Germany’s leading full-service IT providers with a team of around 3,500 employees worldwide. The Lithuanian branch will be part of the central delivery unit that provides all services to DATAGROUP customers, with certain functions related to emerging technologies being implemented exclusively from Kaunas. "Our plan is to set up an office in Kaunas within the first six months in Lithuania, and then proceed to hire up to 30 specialists by the end of the year. Once the new team is up and running, we will concentrate primarily on AI, cybersecurity, as well as IT architecture and infrastructure, with a particular focus on networks, Linux, and project management", said Frank Fabian, the company’s Managing Director. Dexcom, a global leader in continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology, is expanding its Clinical Affairs team to Lithuania. The expansion reflects the company’s commitment to broadening its clinical research efforts within Europe. The new hires will join Dexcom’s 500-strong team at the company’s Global Business Services hub in Vilnius.
The decision to expand follows a visit earlier this year by Dexcom’s global clinical research leadership team, who evaluated Lithuania’s potential to manage clinical studies for EMEA and US. As a result, Dexcom plans to hire specialized professionals for roles directly focused on clinical research, ranging from compliance and data analysis to clinical trial management. These new employees will play a key role in managing Clinical trials and internal product research at Dexcom’s Vilnius office. The Clinical Affairs team will include positions such as Senior Clinical Research Associate, Senior Quality Compliance Specialist, and Clinical Program Manager. These roles require expertise in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), regulatory compliance, and advanced data management systems – skills abundant in Lithuania’s growing life sciences sector. "Lithuania has proven to be an excellent fit for Dexcom due to its strong business environment, skilled workforce, and strategic location within the EMEA region. Additionally, Lithuanian hospitals possess the right competencies in endocrinology clinical trials, providing valuable expertise that supports our research and development efforts", said Stayce Beck, VP Clinical Affairs at Dexcom. Historically, Dexcom’s clinical trials have been concentrated in the United States. However, the company is now shifting its focus to Europe as part of its global growth strategy. Dexcom’s Vilnius office, which opened in 2020, provides fertile ground for expanding the company’s clinical research efforts. "The expertise and competencies of our GBS employees make it an ideal location to support the expansion of our clinical trials into the EMEA region. Having Clinical Affairs team members in Lithuania will enable us to streamline processes, enhance collaboration, and support the development and advancement of our products and services on a global scale", said Rosita Vasilkevičiūtė-Marčėnė, Head of Dexcom Lithuania.
